SPOTLIGHT on my work:
This is a brand new 1930’s inspired piece called ‘De-Lovely’. And it is lovely.
Sophisticated Bling & very suitable for Vintage looks.
To order £325 in silver or gold x
I am now inspired to make a few more Vintage style pieces & am currently working on a wire & crystal mini-topper. Which is going to take a lot of hours & several hundred meters of wire! But it’s shaping up nicely & something I have been thinking about for several years. I did some Googling as it appears only one Etsy seller makes a wire shaped topper (a wire shape suggesting a top hat) & it’s nothing like what I’m thinking of so it will be another totally original piece/concept from me x

De-lovely was actually made up after a last minute call from a stylist needing a piece for a client’s event in 3 days time. In hindsight I clearly gave the stylist too much credibility because in fairness ‘flaky’ would be a more appropriate description. She had worked on a shoot where the people I dealt with’s professionalism was exemplary so I kind of, albeit wrongly, tared her with the same brush.
More fool me……..
I was asked could I make at short notice? Yes. So could I work on some ideas & put something together to show her? Yes.
I was given a Hotmail email address to mail my suggestions to - oh do I hate Hotmail! It’s a wonder files ever get delivered to Hotmail accounts. Hotmail is simply crap! This all happened on a Monday, event Thursday, so really no time to phaff around. After mulling over the little amount of research images I could find, I decided to have a play with some wire, kept playing……. & ended up creating a wire frame for a piece (creativity is distracting & hard to put down) which I photographed & sent over with an alternative idea based on my Rosa piece. Yes I realised nothing was ordered but figured I’d just add the piece to my collection if nothing came of it & I knew time was an issue. It was Monday evening by then so I also texted the stylist to let her know I’d sent an email & that she could call me that evening, if she wished, to discuss.
Some people & yes some stylists seem to think these pieces can be knocked up in 5 minutes & they can’t so I was keen to crack on.
The next morning I got an email to say it had not arrived in her inbox. Hello???? Hotmail!!! So I resent AND pasted up a webpage with the email & photos & texted the link. And for the rest of TUESDAY I heard nothing. She didnt answer my call & did not acknowledge my text. Realising now just what a flake I was dealing with but also realising the flake’s client might still want the piece I finished it.
WEDNESDAY morning / the day one needs to post it. I tried to call her again. I got a text back saying she was filming & had her phone on silent (possibly something she could have mentioned earlier). I was told she had sent on the images & was waiting to hear from her client & if she had not heard by 10 she would call them. I told her it was finished, that it was now ‘that piece or nothing’ & that I was getting ready to go out & would photograph it on me & text images over. She said thankyou, thats great. So I sent 7 images over via text & checked they arrived? Yes she messaged back & she had sent them on. So I went out & took the piece & packaging with me, ready to post. Did I hear anything from her again???? Er NO. No & it seems I won’t or not until she has another styling request.
Clearly communication not a strong point or, actually, politeness. If the client decided to do something else, the least she could have done was let me know. I think all that smoozing with celebs she styles, who clicky their fingers & people come running, may have rubbed off.
As I said, I didnt care because I had a good idea & made a strong piece for the collection. And it’s her loss because she can strike me off her list for last minute styling emergencies ;)
I’m still not convinced ‘Stylists’ arn’t a bit of a waste of space/money?
*Apart from my colleague Marcia who seems unusual for her breed & very multi-talented, so I don’t count her x
Reading this back, I am laughing…… it just occurred to me that her christian name is a name that always spells trouble! I’ve had two clients with that name one was unfortunately mentally ill/clinically depressed, which was very stressful at fittings as she would sob & be hard to communicate with or get to concentrate & the other we will just label “difficult”. I should have known ;)
